FGD and Workshop with Prof. Shakir Ali: Strengthening Curriculum and Exploring Recent Trends in Algebra at University of Mataram

The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Mataram successfully held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and a Workshop on “Recent Trends in Algebra” on July 4–5, 2025. The event was initiated by the Algebra and Combinatorics Research Group and featured a distinguished guest speaker, Prof. Shakir Ali from Aligarh Muslim University (India), who currently serves as the President of the Algebra Forum IIIMT—a collaborative network of algebra researchers from Indonesia, India, Iran, Malaysia, and Türkiye.

The FGD, held on July 4, focused on the evaluation and development of the mathematics curriculum. Faculty members and invited academic partners engaged in active discussions to align the curriculum with global advancements in algebra and to explore ways to integrate research-based learning into academic programs.

On July 5, Prof. Shakir Ali delivered a Workshop on “Recent Trends in Algebra,” highlighting emerging research topics and innovative methodologies in modern algebra. The session provided valuable insights for researchers and lecturers, while also fostering academic exchange and potential collaborations.

This two-day event reflects Universitas Mataram’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, curriculum enhancement, and international research engagement—particularly in the fields of algebra and combinatorics.
